Innovative Approach for New Technology
The Internet has opened up a new world of electronic interactions between people. Social networking, online banking, downloading videos and file sharing are just a few examples of everyday Internet occurrences. Internet crimes are difficult to some extent because there is not a great deal of case law, or precedent, to use as guidance. An Internet crime defense is often a "first" in a state and sometimes in the U.S.
As a criminal defense attorney and trial lawyer, I was responsible for trying and getting an acquittal of the first case in Utah of solicitation of a minor over the Internet. An undercover policewoman, posing as a mother, lured a man into a meeting with her and her (nonexistent) children with the supposed purpose of teaching them about sexual matters. A successful defense based on entrapment resulted in the acquittal of my client.
Salt Lake City Law Office ∙ Aggressive Defense
When you meet me at my law office, you will find an attorney with enough confidence to assemble a strong defense in an area where there is no clear road map. Internet crimes are still new enough to present a challenge to all but the most seasoned attorneys.
Here are a few reasons why you will need a strong defense:
- Child pornography can be unwittingly downloaded through peer-to-peer file sharing programs.
- Computer viruses sometimes contain child pornography which can be transferred to a hard drive without your knowledge or consent.
- Computer experts may need to conduct deep research into a hard drive or electronic chain of events to determine the exact nature of events.
- Search and seizure of a computer using IP addresses can be an issue and I am fully capable of mounting a defense against improper collection of evidence.
- Computer fraud, identity theft and other related Internet crimes can be very complex with vast amounts of electronic and other forms of evidence.
