If you are a juvenile charged with a crime, the good news is that you will not need to go through a jury trial. Juvenile cases are bench trial (judge) only. The Utah court system's approach is also on your side because there is more emphasis on rehabilitation rather than punishment. The other potential good news is that a juvenile does not go through the process alone. It is usually a team approach with a parent or parents, the child and my office working together in pursuit of a good outcome.
The bad news is that occasionally a juvenile can be charged as an adult and that punishment becomes more severe for multiple offenses.
